IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Vance County Board of Education meets on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Board Room of the Administrative Services Center at 1724 Graham Avenue in Henderson.

Vance County Schools will honor its Teacher of the Year, Principal of the Year and Assistant Principal of the Year for 2014-2015 at a banquet on Thursday beginning at 6 p.m. in the Civic Center at Vance-Granville Community College.

SCHOOL EVENTS FOR THIS WEEK

Aycock Elementary: (Wednesday, November 12) – Ident-A-Kid pictures taken. Girls on the Run session from 3 to 4:15 p.m.

L.B. Yancey Elementary: (Wednesday, November 12) – Begin Target Time

E.O. Young Jr. Elementary: (Wednesday, November 12) – Third-grade field trip to Morehead Planetarium in Chapel Hill

Aycock Elementary: (Thursday, November 13) – Book Fair begins. All second graders participate in “Save Our Kids” water safety classes in the afternoon at the Aycock Recreation Center. Girls on the Run session from 3 to 4:15 p.m. Report Card Night until 6:45 p.m. followed by PTA meeting at 7 p.m.

Carver Elementary: (Thursday, November 13) – Club Day for grades 3-5

New Hope Elementary: (Thursday, November 13) – Practice school lockdown with Vance County Sheriff’s Department.

L.B. Yancey Elementary: (Thursday, November 13) – Awards ceremonies at 12:30 and 1:30 p.m.

E.O. Young Jr. Elementary: (Thursday, November 13) – Girls on the Run session 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. PTO business night at 5:30 p.m. in media center.

Zeb Vance Elementary: (Thursday, November 13) – Girls on the Run session 3:15 to 4:15 p.m.

Aycock Elementary: (Friday, November 14) – Aycock Stars assemblies at 9 and 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Last day to order Aycock shirts.

Carver Elementary: (Friday, November 14) – Fall Bazaar from 5 to 7 p.m.

Dabney Elementary: (Friday, November 14) – Breakfast with the Principal

New Hope Elementary: (Friday, November 14) – Lunch Treat for students meeting their AR goals

L.B. Yancey Elementary: (Friday, November 14) – Trail Ride dental van visit

E.O. Young Jr. Elementary: (Friday, November 14) – Attend & Win and Top Reader celebration at 1:30 p.m.

Zeb Vance Elementary: (Friday, November 14) – Texas Roadhouse money and orders due

Tuesday, November 18: Fall picture makeups and Optimist Club Awards assembly at 12 p.m. at Carver Elementary

Tuesday, November 18: VGCC faculty members lead science presentations in fourth and fifth-grade classrooms at Clarke Elementary

Tuesday, November 18: Fall make-up pictures taken at L.B. Yancey Elementary. Staff development in the afternoon on “How to Use Data to Drive Instruction.”

Tuesday, November 18: Girls on the Run session 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. at E.O. Young Jr. Elementary

Wednesday, November 19: Girls on the Run session 3 to 4:15 p.m. at Aycock Elementary

Wednesday, November 19: Dr. Cornelius Cathcart leads presentation on ADHD for parents at 6 p.m. at New Hope Elementary

Thursday, November 20: Girls on the Run session 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. at Zeb Vance Elementary. Parenting class with counselor Valerie Hairston from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on “Dealing with Grief and Loss.”

Friday, November 21: No school for students in pre-kindergarten classes due to all-day staff development for staff members

Friday, November 21: Reading Rally for all third graders and their teachers at 9 a.m. at The Skateeum on Coble Boulevard in Henderson

Friday, November 21: Candy Man Main Event at Dabney Elementary

Tuesday, November 25: SSMT referral meeting at L.B. Yancey Elementary.

Wednesday, November 26: Teacher workday. No school for students.

Thursday, November 27-Friday, November 28: Thanksgiving holidays. All schools and school system offices are closed.

Wednesday, December 3: Interim Progress Reports distributed
