On January 2, 2015 at approximately 1:34 PM an officer of the Henderson Police Department Patrol (Operations) Division made a traffic stop in the area Winder Street and Harriet Street. The Henderson Police Officer was confronted by the driver who produced a handgun and fired upon the officer. The officer was not struck and returned fire.
The suspect then fled the scene on the vehicle. A second Henderson Police Department Patrol Officer that was in the area pursued the vehicle, which ended with the vehicle stopping on Boothe Avenue. The suspect exited the vehicle and began running, with the officer chasing him, on foot. This pursuit ended on Bullock Street. The pursuing officer confronted the suspect, who was still armed with a handgun. The suspect then turned gun on himself and fired, shooting himself.
The suspect was transported by EMS to the local medical center where he succumbed to the self-inflicted injury. The name of the person and the officers involved has not yet been released due to the ongoing investigation which has been initiated by the SBI. The request for and initiation of the investigation was made in accordance with the Henderson Police Department policy.
Sad situation…….feel bad for the Police Officer who had to witness a suicide b/c of someone evidently not wanting to go to jail. Why run from the Police if you’re not doing anything illegal and why on GOD’s Green Earth would you shoot at a Police Officer and expect not to be killed?
Once again….Henderson is the “eyesore” of the 5-County area!!! It’s only been 2-3 days into 2015 and you all are already making national headlines!!!
We noticed. Yes, it’s very sad. Thanks for caring.
Oxford has been in the negative news lately. No comment, Deception? Have you been so busy patrolling our borders to not notice the same flaws within yours?
Zep……you are correct about Oxford making the “news”…..2 bad that 2 saints were murdered on New Year’s Day & their house burned by 2 murderers from Texas. That my dear was “news”….why no more word on the alledged suicide of Henderson man who was being chased by HPD? Word is that a stote video caught it all on tape….is that why your local paper has decided not to give any updates or name the black cop that was involved? Yes sugar, I said black cop. Murders & shootouts are so common in your city that it barely is newsworthy…..rest well!!!!
Maybe your crime rate is the reason no businesses want to locate there? G’nite sunshine.
You’re in an especially kind mood tonight, dear Deception. Glad you responded to my prompt.
I have to agree in part with Deception re the shootout and subsequent suicide–it has been nine days and it seems that would be enough time to hear what was what–. It would stop any rumors.
prudence, I think what happened is that a fleeing thug killed himself rather be arrested.
I think you are right Publius.
Deception, you said “Murders & shootouts are so common in your city that it barely is newsworthy”, the truth is the local newspaper will openly state that they do not normally report these events anymore because they are so routine. Just like the didn’t report the home invasion of the elderly woman on Vicksboro Road by four young “men” a few weeks ago. Hmmm…
another example of cops chasing young black men mr obama will fix this situation through gun control
Glad I could mask your negative babbling with my dislike.
you cant hide the truth our great president is the truth
