Vance County Schools Launches Free Mobile App

Vance County Schools announces the launch of “Vance Mobile,” a free mobile district application that brings vital district and school information directly to smartphones and mobile devices.

Vance Mobile keeps the Vance County Schools’ community connected wherever they are. The app offers mobile access to district news, calendars, schedules, staff directory and more.

School staff members, parents, students and members of the community can download the application for free through Apple iTunes and Google Play app stores. Developed by Blackboard Inc., the app also is expected to be popular with alumni, incoming students, community business leaders and others.

The new mobile app is available for free on Android and Apple iOS devices.

“We want to offer our employees, students, parents and other members of our community the best in technology and access and that means making Vance County Schools’ services and information available to mobile users,” said Terri Hedrick, public information officer for the school system. “We’re excited to have a partner in Blackboard that really understands the possibilities for mobile applications in K-12 education.”

Interested persons may download Vance Mobile by searching for Vance County in the iTunes App Store or Google Play or by clicking on one of the links below:

Once the app is downloaded, users can get up-to-the-minute news and alerts on important school news. To do this, participants will want to sign up for “push notifications” in the app. For the notifications, follow these easy steps:

  • After downloading, open the app
  • Swipe right or select the district icon on the upper left-hand side to open the main menu
  • Go to “My Profile”
  • Select to enable push notifications
  • Select “Follow School” and then search for the names of the schools you would like to follow. This will enable you to see content from those schools in the digest, calendar and resources areas, as well as receive push notifications from those schools. You may select one school to follow or all 17 schools to follow.

The mobile app also offers the capability to select “Follow Student.” This service will allow parents to receive student specific push notifications, but is only available when the Connect Parent Portal function is activated. The school system has not yet activated this function, but plans to in the near future. More information will be shared about this feature soon.

Information on Vance Mobile and how to sign up for its services also can be found on the school system’s website at www.vcs.k12.nc.us. It is accessible by clicking on the Vance Mobile headline under “News & Announcements” on the homepage.
