Hughes considers joining Army, resigning office

In a brief email interview with Home in Henderson, County Commissioner Scott Hughes verified that he has been “looking into joining the Army as an officer”.

According to his email response to questions posted to him by HiH, Hughes has completed the written tests and obtained the letters of recommendation necessary to be an officer.

He has also passed the required physical examination and obtained a waiver for back surgery he underwent in 2008.

Hughes told HiH that he if does join up, it will be the end of the year before he leaves.

“There are things I have to weigh out before I make my decision,” Hughes said.

The first-term county commissioner said that if he should decide to go into the service, he will notify the media at the same time he notified the board of commissioners chair and the Democratic Party.
