This week has seen discussions on the library, the first baby of the year in Henderson, birth control, and, most importantly, college football. Take your pick of these or start a new discussion on our weekend open line.
Friday’s open line
Home in Henderson is a public forum. Its intent is to create and promote an environment for the free exchange of ideas. It is not, however, a free-speech anything-goes zone. We would like to take this opportunity to remind our readers that racist language, ethnic slurs and profanity are speech acts of violence that will not be tolerated here. Our lines are now opened.
Thursday’s open line
For those of you who remain curious, we at Home in Henderson are taking our first official tour of the new library digs today. We hope to give you the inside view, with pictures, if we can figure out how to post them. Good technical support is worth its weight in Pentium processors. Lamentations aside, the floor is yours.
Wednesday’s open line
In case you couldn’t stay awake long enough, Penn State won against Florida State in the Orange Bowl after a triple overtime endurance match. Florida State fans may commiserate here while us Penn Staters bask in the glory.

Pearson to the community and our condolences go out to his family. We knew Lt. Pearson in two capacities. We knew him as a police lieutenant and a supervisor of Community Police. We also knew him as a driver on field trips for our Vance County students, most recently on a trip …

The kids are bouncing off of the walls in sugar-fuelled excitement, the needles are already dropping off of the tree, and Wal-Mart reminds us of Arkham Asylum from the old Batman comics. Is it more than you can stand? We’re here to help on our Friday open line.
Council creates Search and Transition committee
City Attorney John Zollicoffer began this portion of Monday night’s meeting of the Henderson City Council by advising the council that those outside of city government cannot be privy to job applications. They way around it, he told the council, is to name outsiders to a search committee and designate that committee as an official body of the city so it can review personnel records.
