The N.C. Department of Commerce’s Labor and Economic Analysis Division has released its August issue of N.C. Today: July economic data indicate little improvement in state labor market conditions. North Carolina’s smoothed seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose to 8.9 percent in July from 8.8 percent in June. This rate is 1.5 percentage points higher than the national 7.4 percent rate and is tied with Rhode Island’s as the third highest state unemployment rate. The N.C. Department of Commerce’s Labor and Economic Analysis Division has released its July issue of N.C. Today: An indicator of growing labor demand, weekly production hours in North Carolina manufacturing reached its highest level since June 2011. Average weekly hours rose by 24 minutes to a 41.7 hour average workweek in June. Total nonfarm employment rose by 5,700 jobs over the month and by 60,800, or 1.5 percent, over the year. N.C. Reemployment Grant Renewed
North Carolina was awarded nearly $2.8 million in Reemployment Eligibility and Assessment funds to help unemployed citizens find jobs. The federal funds, awarded by the U.S. Department of Labor, will be used to help fund North Carolina’s ongoing program of creating re-employment plans for recipients of unemployment insurance.
