Thursday the North Carolina Department of Justice released the 2011 crime rate reports for North Carolina. Overall, reports of crime statewide fell by 0.9 percent in 2011, making it North Carolina’s lowest crime rate since 1977, Attorney General Roy Cooper said. The statewide violent crime rate dropped by 5.2 percent during the year.
