VGCC honors Faculty and Staff Members of the Year with Glen Raven Awards
Vance-Granville Community College President Dr. Stelfanie Williams recently presented the college’s annual awards to a pair of outstanding VGCC employees. Kali J. Brown of Youngsville, the college’s director of financial aid, was named Staff Member of the Year for 2015-16, while Social Sciences department chair and instructor Kristi Salmons-Ellenberg of Henderson was chosen as the Faculty Member of the Year. VGCC trustees approve new medical program in Histotechnology
Vance-Granville Community College’s Board of Trustees approved a new medical laboratory associate degree program, hired a contractor to renovate a building, and welcomed a new trustee at the board’s bi-monthly meeting on the Main Campus on Sept. 21. The new Histotechnology program will prepare students to be efficient in the medical laboratory field, Trustee Barbara Cates Harris, chair of the Curriculum Committee, said. High School Football Games Moved To Thursday September 24th, 2015
Due to the forecast for bad weather on Friday, the football games for Northern Vance and Southern Vance high schools will be played on Thursday, September 24. Northern Vance will play J.F. Webb at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Viking Stadium and Southern Vance will play Louisburg at 7 p.m. in Raider Stadium.
Recordkeeping, Business Plans to be discussed at free VGCC Seminars October 6th, 2015

VGCC BioWork students certified for pre-apprenticeship training
Three local residents were recently recognized as the first Vance-Granville Community College students to earn pre-apprenticeship certifications through the North Carolina Department of Commerce and the NCWorks initiative. Tranita Brown, Keith Perry and Cheryl Reddrick, all of Henderson, received certificates after completing the BioWork Process Technician program, a training course that prepares individuals for employment within bioprocess, pharmaceutical, or chemical manufacturing companies. Vance County Schools – Presentation at Eaton-Johnson
Students in the eighth grade at Eaton-Johnson Middle School learned about the hotel business and hospitality industry during a presentation on September 9, by Doneva Chavis-Battle, director of sales for Country Inn & Suites in Rocky Mount. Chavis-Battle explained to the students that the hospitality industry is growing in importance and in opportunities for future careers. She noted that her 105-room hotel not only rents rooms on a daily and nightly basis, but also hosts several different types of events. …

They include President Jennifer Burns of Henderson, Vice President Lucas Thompson of Wake Forest, Secretary Heather Beckum of Creedmoor and Public Information Officer Ashley McEntee of Oxford. Vance County Schools – Board Approves New Principals
The Vance County Board of Education tonight approved Dr. Brad Jones as the new principal at Eaton-Johnson Middle School and Mr. Kristian Herring as the new principal at Zeb Vance Elementary School. The Staples Fulfillment Center near Henderson has donated another 10 pallets of school and offices supplies, valued at over $12,000, to Vance County Schools. E.T. VGCC to offer two-semester Logistics Management certificate
Vance-Granville Community College is offering a certificate program in Logistics Management in a new format that will allow students to complete the credential through 12-week courses over two semesters. These classes will meet on the college’s Main Campus in Vance County on an evening schedule, and students will complete some coursework online, making the format ideal for adults who work during the day.
