VGCC Paralegal program sends first graduates off to new careers
Vance-Granville Community College recently celebrated the graduation of the first class from the two-year Paralegal Technology degree program. Also worth celebrating was the fact that by the time they graduated, some of the students had already secured employment in their chosen career field. Vance County Schools – Nursing Aide Graduates
There are 15 students who are now graduates of the Vance Medical Academy at Southern Vance High School as certified nursing aides (CNA) following a pinning ceremony held in their honor on June 9. The pinning ceremony was held in the school’s Drama Room and was attended by approximately 75 family members and friends of the students. Vance County Schools Retirement Celebration
Vance County Schools invites the public to attend a “Retirement Celebration” honoring Superintendent Ronald E. Gregory on Thursday, June 18 2015, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the cafeteria of Northern Vance High School at 293 Warrenton Road in Henderson. The school system will be honoring Mr. Gregory for his 52 years in public education, the last 48 of which have been in service to Vance County Schools’ students and employees.
VGCC offers two free Small Business Seminars June 22
The Vance-Granville Community College Small Business Center has scheduled a pair of free seminars for Monday, June 22, at the college’s Main Campus in Vance County. “Accounting for Small Cosmetology Businesses” will be held from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. that day, while “Marketing Your Business for Success” will follow from noon until 3 p.m. The location for both is Room 7107 (Building 7). VGCC to hold seminar for Agricultural Entrepreneurs in Warrenton
The Vance-Granville Community College Small Business Center has scheduled a free seminar, entitled “Ag Entrepreneurship 101,” on Tuesday, June 23, from 6 until 8 p.m., at the college’s Warren County Campus in Warrenton. VGCC Franklin Campus to host Food Truck Rodeo
Vance-Granville Community College’s Franklin County Campus will be the site of a Mini Food Truck Rodeo on Tuesday, June 16, from 5 until 8 p.m. Four food trucks based in the Raleigh area are scheduled to be featured: Virgil’s (Jamaican cuisine), Ladybug’s Treats (specializing in homemade desserts), CockADoodleMoo (chicken, barbecue and burgers) and Chick-n-Que (known for their chopped chicken barbeque and ostrich burgers). Amanda Bullock, a sixth grader at Henderson Middle School, and Jackson Hopper, a sixth grader at Eaton-Johnson Middle School, will participate in the prestigious Duke University Talent Identification Program (TIP). Duke TIP is a nonprofit organization that offers enrichment activities to academically gifted and talented youths. Seniors in the graduating Class of 2015 were honored during the Northern Vance High School National Technical Honor Society Induction and Cording Ceremony held in the school’s cafeteria on May 21. There were 32 seniors who were honored during the event. Veta Pierce-Cappetta, the counselor and Success Center coordinator for Vance-Granville Community College’s Franklin County Campus, recently graduated from the North Carolina Community College Leadership Program (NCCCLP). She is one of 38 community college faculty and staff members from across the state who completed the program this year. The leadership program, which includes both face-to-face and computer-based learning experiences, provides preparation and training to develop future community college leaders. The STEM Early High School, a middle school in the Vance County Public School System, hosted a “STEM Extravaganza” event on Saturday, May 30, in the cafeteria at Northern Vance High School. Largest Graduating Class in VGCC history hears from Alumnus
Vance-Granville Community College’s 46th commencement exercises on May 15 made history in more ways than one. Most notably, the Class of 2015 was the largest in the history of VGCC, with approximately 550 graduates receiving degrees and diplomas. Donald McCoy, a STEM consultant and retired engineer, led all students at New Hope Elementary School in activities to use strategies involving science, technology, engineering and math. Students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade assembled in the school’s multipurpose room on May 20, to participate in the activities and hear McCoy’s presentation. “Technology is anything that makes life better,” McCoy told the students.
