Vance County Schools – Key Club Community Service Project
The Northern Vance High School Key Club members have worked hard during most of this school year to complete a community service project to raise funds and purchase items to donate for use by needy families at three public service assistance organizations. LOUISBURG, N.C.—The Honors Program is proud to celebrate its first graduating class with a $100,000 gift from Mr. and Mrs. Roger G. Taylor ’68. Estate of Long-Time VGCC Art Instructor Benefits College, Students
For more than four decades, the name Lelia Brigham was synonymous with Vance-Granville Community College. A continuing education art instructor since practically the beginning of the college in the fall of 1969, Brigham had a longer association with VGCC as an instructor than anyone else prior to her death in December 2014. VGCC officials were recently informed that Brigham’s estate has left the college nearly $400,000, with additional assets pending. Through this bequest, Brigham continues the legacy of learning to …
High School Students study Biotech at VGCC Workshop
Four local high school students participated in the third annual Vance-Granville Community College Biotech Workshop, held over the course of two Saturdays in May. VGCC Bioprocess Technology program head Dr. Tara Hamilton conducted the workshop with assistance from one of her students, Melissa Messner of Wilton. The participating students hailed from South Granville High School, Granville Early College High School, Warren County High School and J.F. Webb High School. Local Principal Completes Leadership Program
Andrew Swanner, Executive Director of Oxford Preparatory School, recently completed the Distinguished Leadership Program (DLP), a year-long leadership development program for practicing school principals designed and provided by the North Carolina Principals and Assistant Principal’s Association in partnership with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and UNC-LearnNC. Guest speaker discusses Medical Coding as VGCC schedules new program
Vance-Granville Community College hosted a guest speaker in April to discuss careers in Medical Coding, as the college is preparing to offer a new opportunity for training in that field. VGCC Pins Associate Degree Nursing Graduates
Vance-Granville Community College recognized 38 students who graduated this spring from the Associate Degree Nursing program with a pinning ceremony in the college’s Civic Center on May 13. Among those honored with distinctive nursing pins at the ceremonies were eight who graduated through the LPN to ADN Transition Program, which helps Licensed Practical Nurses to continue their education and then become Registered Nurses. VGCC service project results in donation of clothes to Murdoch Center
Vance-Granville Community College recently organized a clothing drive to benefit the patients at Murdoch Developmental Center, located in Butner. The college’s Sustainability Outreach Subcommittee collected gently used clothes and shoes for both children and adults this spring, and received donations from faculty, staff and students. Geraldine Cash, the administrative assistant for VGCC’s South Campus and chair of the subcommittee, presented the donations to officials from Murdoch Developmental Center in May. “We collected approximately 20 boxes full of clothing,” Cash said. …

Two VGCC campuses to host Mini-Medical School summer camps
High school students from throughout the region are invited to learn about health sciences and careers in medicine by participating in the 2015 “Mini-Medical School” Summer Camp, conducted by the Wake Area Health Education Center (AHEC) in partnership with Vance-Granville Community College. The intensive, week-long day camp is being offered twice: June 22-26, at VGCC’s South Campus, located between Butner and Creedmoor, and July 27-31, at VGCC’s Franklin County Campus, just outside Louisburg. Students in Vance County Schools are already involved in state testing that will now stretch through the end of the school year with the last day of classes set for Wednesday, June 10 2015. VGCC graduates 16 Cadets in School’s 100th BLET Class
Sixteen cadets graduated on May 12 from the Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) program at Vance-Granville Community College, in a ceremony held in the Civic Center on Main Campus. After passing the state certification exam, all are authorized to work in any law enforcement agency in North Carolina. VGCC awards 574 degrees and diplomas to 2015 graduates
Vance-Granville Community College’s commencement exercises on May 15 awarded a record 574 degrees and diplomas, according to an announcement Monday night from VGCC President Dr. Stelfanie Williams. Dr. Williams made the report to the VGCC Board of Trustees at the board’s bi-monthly meeting at the main campus on May 18. She noted that the registrar is still processing graduates as well as grade changes and expects additional completions.
