VGCC presents Lecture Series on “Money” issues
Vance-Granville Community College’s Arts and Sciences division is offering an enlightening public lecture series this semester on the theme of “money,” including issues of economic inequality. Faculty members from various departments within the division are making presentations, applying their particular fields of expertise to the subject. The first lecture was held March 24 and was entitled “Show Me the Money! Generations and marketing subjects of business seminars at VGCC Main Campus
The Vance-Granville Community College Small Business Center has scheduled a pair of free seminars for Tuesday, April 28, at the college’s Main Campus in Vance County. The Vance-Granville Community College Small Business Center has scheduled a free seminar, entitled “Hospitality Habits for Small Business,” on Wednesday, April 8, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., at the college’s Warren County Campus in Warrenton. VGCC Radiography student nominated for Herring Award
Vance-Granville Community College recently nominated John T. Kelly III of Durham, a student in the college’s Radiography program, for the North Carolina Community College System’s Dallas Herring Achievement Award. The award was established by the system in 2010 to honor the late Dr. Dallas Herring, the longtime State Board of Education chairman and one of the state’s earliest advocates of community colleges. Vance-Granville Community College awarded 319 scholarships to students at an annual awards ceremony, held Feb. 25 in the college’s Civic Center. Trustees Urge General Assembly to Support Community Colleges with Increased Funding
Vance-Granville Community College’s Board of Trustees adopted a resolution urging the North Carolina General Assembly to support the state’s community colleges with increased funding at the board’s bi-monthly meeting on Monday, March 16. The meeting was held at the VGCC Warren County Campus in Warrenton. The resolution, approved unanimously, urges the Legislature to close the “Salary Gap” for community college instructors and staff by allowing colleges to retain $59 million now returned to the state as a part of management …

Lanisha Daye of L.B. Yancey Elementary School, has been selected as the North Carolina Association of Educators’ 2015 Assistant Principal of the Year. Daye was notified of the state award on March 2. Vance County Schools – STEM Students Earn First Place
Sixth-grade students in the STEM Early High School again entered the N.C. Sumdog online competition in math and again came away with first-place honors. Lynn Conlee, their math teacher, assisted the students during the competition. They competed online in mid-February with students from across the state. STEM students finished first as a group from among 30 schools, 292 students, 35,992 questions answered and 29,136 correct answers to math problems.
