Vance-Granville Community College, in partnership with the Kerr-Tar Workforce Development Board, has received a $147,000 grant, made possible by federal funds awarded to the North Carolina Division of Workforce Solutions. Employees of numerous local companies recently completed a Vance-Granville Community College course that offered instruction in Programmable Logic Controllers. The 96-hour course, “Introduction to PLC’s,” was held at VGCC’s Main Campus from August through November. A Programmable Logic Controller is a type of computer used for automation of electromechanical processes, such as directing machinery on a factory assembly line. During the spring 2015 semester, Vance-Granville Community College’s Franklin County Campus will offer Cosmetology courses during the evening. The evening program is returning after an absence of several years. Granville County Habitat for Humanity will soon start construction on a new affordable home in Oxford, in partnership with the Carpentry program at Vance-Granville Community College.
