VGCC Warren Campus to host Business Credit Seminar
The Vance-Granville Community College Small Business Center, in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce of Warren County, has scheduled a free seminar, entitled “Understanding How to Access Credit and Capital for Your Small Business,” for Wednesday, Nov. 19, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the college’s Warren County Campus in Warrenton. Ambassador Programs at Eaton-Johnson Middle School, VGCC Renew Partnership
Vance-Granville Community College and Eaton-Johnson Middle School in Henderson are expanding upon the partnership between the two institutions’ student leadership programs. As part of a broad collaboration between the community college and the middle school, the ambassador programs from each side have worked together since 2008. At both VGCC and EJMS, “ambassadors” are outstanding students who commit their time to serve as leaders. NC Teacher Leaving Annual Report 2013-2014
The number of teachers leaving North Carolina public school classrooms was down slightly from last year according to the 2013-14 Annual Report on Teachers Leaving the Profession just presented to State Board of Education members. In 2013-14, 13,557 teachers left their local school districts resulting in an overall state turnover rate of 14.12 percent. This was down from the 14.33 percent reported in 2012-13. The turnover report reflects the time period from March 2013 to March 2014. When asked about …
VGCC Advisory Committees hold annual meetings
Citizens from Vance, Granville, Franklin and Warren counties came together at the Main Campus of Vance-Granville Community College on Oct. 28 as the college’s advisory committees held their annual meetings. VGCC’s 37 advisory committees are made up of people from the communities served by the college who have worked in the fields for which the college offers training. Committees are also established to advise VGCC’s South, Franklin and Warren campuses, as well as the Small Business Center and other departments. …

VGCC observes Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Vance-Granville Community College held educational programs for students on two campuses in recognition of October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Faculty and staff members at both the college’s Main Campus in Vance County and the South Campus in Granville County organized events on Oct. 22. A longtime educator and community leader will continue to make a difference in the lives of local students, through a new Vance-Granville Community College scholarship established in his memory. The family of Hubert L. Gooch Jr. of Oxford, who died in March, recently created a new scholarship through the VGCC Endowment Fund. In awarding the Hubert L. VGCC Child Care kids learn about Fire Safety
Children enrolled in the Child Care Center on Vance-Granville Community College’s Main Campus recently learned about fire safety and fire trucks as part of October’s observance as Fire Prevention Month. Vance-Granville Community College will hold a “Business Technologies Fair” on Wednesday, Nov. 12, in the Civic Center on the college’s Main Campus in Vance County. VGCC now enrolling students for new Criminal Justice Cohort program
Vance-Granville Community College’s Criminal Justice Technology program is again offering an innovative approach to help certified law enforcement officers earn a two-year degree in a little more than a year. Starting in January, officers will be given a chance to complete an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Criminal Justice through a series of hybrid classes. Nursing students at Vance-Granville Community College are partnering with the local health department on a new community health awareness project. Jackie Sergent, health promotion coordinator and health education supervisor for the Granville-Vance District Health Department, recently visited VGCC to speak with students in the Associate Degree Nursing program. Eric Pierce Is 2014-2015 Principal of the Year
Eric Pierce, long-time principal of Western Vance High School, has been selected as the Vance County Schools’ Principal of the Year for the second time in his career. A special panel interviewed candidates for the district honor and chose Pierce for the prestigious recognition for the 2014-2015 school year.
