Award-Winning Educator Dr. Randy Bridges ’77 to Deliver 2014 Commencement Address
LOUISBURG, N.C.—Louisburg College is pleased to announce that Dr. Randy Bridges, a 1977 graduate of the College, will deliver this year’s commencement address on Friday, May 2, 2014, at 5:00pm in the Frances Boyette Dickson Auditorium of the Seby B. Jones Performing Arts Center (JPAC). Bridges served for two years as the superintendent of the Stafford County Public Schools in Stafford, Virginia, and was the first African American to hold that position in the county. NCDOT Division of Aviation Sponsors Aviation Career Day for High School Students April 28
Raleigh—The N.C. Department of Transportation’s Division of Aviation will sponsor an Aviation Career Day for high school students at the Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) from 9 a.m. to noon on Monday, April 28. Kerr Lake Art Show winners named
Entries in the 48th Annual Kerr Lake Art Show, co-sponsored by Vance-Granville Community College and the Kerr Lake Art Society, were judged and put on display for the public in the lobby of the Civic Center on the college’s Main Campus in Vance County, April 14-18. Morning round still open for VGCC Golf Tournament on May 6
The 30th annual Vance-Granville Community College Endowment Fund Golf Tournament will be held at the Henderson Country Club on Tuesday, May 6, 2014. All event proceeds support the mission of the college, the Endowment Fund and student scholarships. The afternoon round is now full, tournament organizers have announced, but slots are still available for golfers in the morning round. The one-day ServSafe Recertification course will soon be offered at Vance-Granville Community College’s Main Campus in Vance County. Participants will meet on Saturday, May 17, 2014, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. in Building 7 on Main Campus. Ashley Whitesides is the instructor for the training. New Home Care Aide course offered at VGCC Warren Campus
Vance-Granville Community College will offer a Home Care Aide training course at the college’s Warren County Campus in Warrenton, May 27 through June 24. Classes are set to be held Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. This marks the first time that the course has been offered by VGCC. Students encouraged to apply for Skill-UP assistance
Current and incoming Vance-Granville Community College students can now apply for extra help financing their education or training, thanks to a grant received by the college from the North Carolina Tobacco Trust Fund Commission. VGCC has been awarded a $20,000 Project Skill-UP grant from the Commission, as part of funding that is being shared by a number of community colleges across the state for workforce development initiatives. Partnering with local school systems, Vance-Granville Community College put manufacturing careers in the spotlight with its second annual Advanced Manufacturing Career Awareness Day on April 8. Cosmetology students from three colleges compete at VGCC
Vance-Granville Community College hosted a Cosmetology Student Competition on April 1 in the Civic Center on the college’s Main Campus. The event featured students from Halifax Community College and Piedmont Community College as well as from VGCC’s Main, South and Franklin County campuses. Vance-Granville Community College recently nominated David A. Henry of Macon, a student in the College Transfer program, for the North Carolina Community College System’s Governor Robert W. Scott Student Leadership Award. The award was established in 2004 in honor of Scott, who served as Governor of North Carolina from 1969-1973, and as President of the N.C.
