VGCC Partnership with school systems receives Education and Workforce Innovation Grant
The North Carolina Education and Workforce Innovation Commission has awarded an $800,000 grant to support a workforce training partnership involving Vance-Granville Community College and the four public school systems in the college’s service area. The grant funds are for the Manufacturing Skills Training Alliance, which includes VGCC and the Career and Technical Education high school programs from Vance County Schools, Granville County Schools, Franklin County Schools and Warren County Schools. VGCC volunteers support UNC-TV fundraiser
Vance-Granville Community College recently sent a group of approximately 30 volunteers to Research Triangle Park to continue the college’s tradition of helping UNC-TV with the public broadcasting network’s on-air “Festival 2014” fundraiser. This was the tenth consecutive year that the college participated in the Festival. Students, faculty and staff members traveled to the UNC-TV studio on March 1. Vance-Granville Community College awarded 339 scholarships to students at an annual awards ceremony, held Feb. 26 in the college’s Civic Center. The number set a new record for scholarships awarded at VGCC in a single academic year. VGCC Names 330 to Dean’s List
Vance-Granville Community College has announced that 330 students earned Dean’s List honors for the fall semester that ended in December 2013. To qualify for the Dean’s List, a student had to maintain a 3.5 grade-point average and have no grade lower than “B” while carrying at least 12 semester hours, according to VGCC Vice President of Academic & Student Affairs Dr. Angela Ballentine. Brady honored for Leadership at VGCC
Vance-Granville Community College Biology instructor Phyllis “Button” Brady was recently honored with the President’s Leadership Award from Dr. Stelfanie Williams, the president of the college. Brady, who has been a full-time instructor at VGCC since 1992, was instrumental in leading the college’s effort to be reaffirmed for accreditation in 2013. Vance County Schools Announcement on Schedule Changes
Due to missed student days because of recent inclement weather, the six-week grading period for students at Northern Vance, Southern Vance and Western Vance high schools will not end until Tuesday, March 11. Report cards for students in these schools will now be distributed on Tuesday, March 18.
New Agreement Improves Transfer Process between VGCC and State Universities
Vance-Granville Community College students will enjoy a smoother pathway to completing a four-year degree starting this fall, thanks to a new Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (CAA) between the N.C. Community College System and the University of North Carolina System. On Feb. 21, members of the State Board of Community Colleges and the UNC Board of Governors signed the revised CAA, replacing an agreement that had been in place since 1997.
