Ferguson and Edwards named to posts at VGCC
Vance-Granville Community College recently announced the appointment of two department leaders, both with longstanding ties to the college and the community. EDDIE FERGUSON Eddie Ferguson of Oxford has been named the new director of the Vance-Granville Community College Endowment Fund. In that capacity, he will provide leadership to the Endowment Fund Corporation, a non-profit organization that seeks and receives contributions to support VGCC students and the mission of the college. Area artists take part in VGCC Black History Month Gospel Celebration
Vance-Granville Community College held a Gospel Celebration on Feb. 6 in honor of Black History Month, and in the spirit of bringing together the college with the communities it serves. The event, organized by the college’s Division of Business and Applied Technologies, was held in the VGCC Civic Center. VGCC adding Gerontology concentration to Human Services program
Starting this fall, Vance-Granville Community College will offer a new Gerontology degree, as a concentration within the Human Services Technology program. This new concentration will prepare students to specialize in direct service delivery to older adults and their families. VGCC recently became one of only six North Carolina community colleges approved to offer the Human Services Technology/Gerontology program. Vance County Schools is hosting another school bus driver training Tuesday, March 4 through Thursday, March 6, in the Drama Room at Southern Vance High School. VGCC Students Awarded Golden LEAF Scholarships
Fifteen students from Vance-Granville Community College recently received scholarships through the Golden LEAF Scholars program for the North Carolina Community College System. The scholarship program, designed to help North Carolinians attend the state’s community colleges, is funded through a $750,000 grant from the Golden LEAF Foundation. The scholarship can be used for tuition, books, fees, supplies, transportation and childcare related to attending classes during the 2013-14 academic year, and industry-recognized credential testing expenses that address skill gaps upon course completion. …
