Vance-Granville Community College instructor Kristi Salmons-Ellenberg was recently named chair of the college’s Social Sciences department. A resident of Henderson, Salmons-Ellenberg has taught at VGCC since 2010 and continues teaching Sociology courses. The Social Sciences department, part of the VGCC Arts and Sciences division, provides instruction in anthropology, economics, history, psychology, political science and sociology. Vance-Granville Community College is offering professional development opportunities for local afterschool program administrators and staff members. “Upping Your Afterschool Game,” an all-day North Carolina Afterschool Professional Development Competency Training session, is scheduled to be held in Room 6115 on VGCC’s Main Campus in Vance County on Saturday, March 8, and again on Saturday, May 10. Vance-Granville Community College held its annual celebration of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday on Jan. 15 2014  in the college’s Civic Center, featuring contributions from students, faculty and staff members. Vance-Granville Community College recently completed classes that helped area adults gain needed computer skills through partnerships that extend the college’s reach into the community. “Employability Skills” classes were held at Western Vance High School in Henderson and at St. Delight Holy Church in Manson. Vance-Granville Community College has scheduled a ten-week evening Woodworking course, open to all area residents, in the Carpentry shop on the college’s Main Campus in Vance County.
