VGCC Art students exhibit their work
Vance-Granville Community College is holding an art show consisting of works by students in Portrait Painting continuing education classes taught by Leslie Johnson of Oxford. The portraits are displayed in the lobby on the first floor of Building 7 on the college’s Main Campus in Vance County, Friday, Jan. 10 through Wednesday, Jan. 15. VGCC launches Online Registration for Continuing Education
Vance-Granville Community College recently introduced a new system that allows area adults to register and pay for many continuing education classes online. According to Dale Fey, the college’s Dean of Continuing Education, the innovative changes bring several benefits. “First of all, this is going to be convenient for our students, who will now be able to register from anywhere, anytime, at the click of a mouse,” Fey said. “In addition, this will mean that all the administrative procedures will be …

VGCC receives Golden LEAF Grant for Manufacturing Alliance with school systems
The Golden LEAF Foundation has awarded a $460,000 grant to support a workforce training partnership involving Vance-Granville Community College and the four public school systems in the college’s service area. The Manufacturing Skills Training Alliance is led by VGCC and also includes the Career and Technical Education high school programs from Vance County Schools, Granville County Schools, Franklin County Schools and Warren County Schools. Eleven cadets graduated on Dec. 17 from the Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) program at Vance-Granville Community College, in a ceremony held in the Civic Center on Main Campus. Vance-Granville Community College will hold a special program celebrating the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the Civic Center on VGCC’s Main Campus in Vance County. All four campuses of Vance-Granville Community College will take a break for the holidays, beginning Dec. 20, and then open for business again on Thursday, January 2, 2014. Late registration for spring semester classes will be held Monday, Jan. 6 through Wednesday, Jan. 8. Jones retires after 25-Year VGCC career
Vanessa R. Jones of Norlina is retiring, effective January 1, 2014, after more than 25 years of service at Vance-Granville Community College. Members of Jones’s family joined her VGCC colleagues at a reception held in her honor on Dec. 5, 2013 at the college’s Main Campus. VGCC History Club celebrates successful Food Drive
Vance-Granville Community College’s History Club recently conducted a food drive as its major service project of the fall semester. Students collected non-perishable food items, as well as paper products and hygiene products, which were donated to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina. The donations weighed in at 372 pounds, which translates to 313 meals according to the food bank’s formula.
