VGCC Board Holds Meeting
The Vance-Granville Community College (VGCC) Board of Trustees held its bimonthly meeting on Monday, March 18 at the college’s Henderson campus. At that meeting, upon recommendation by the Budget Committee, the Board voted to adopt the 2013-2014 County Current and Capital Outlay Budgets as presented, contingent upon approval by appropriate county commissioners in the four-county area. The total amounts requested from each county are: Vance County, $1,239,054, plus a special one-time capital outlay request of $934,010 for roof and chiller …

VGCC nominates student for statewide achievement award
Vance-Granville Community College recently nominated Rebecca Fetterhoff of Creedmoor, a student in the college’s Early Childhood Associate program, for the North Carolina Community College System’s Dallas Herring Achievement Award. That award was established by the system in 2010 to honor the late Dr. Dallas Herring, the longtime State Board of Education chairman and one of the state’s earliest advocates of community colleges. VGCC invites middle schoolers to Science Camp
Vance-Granville Community College will hold its third annual Science Camp for middle school students this summer. The Science Camp will be held June 17-21 on the college’s Main Campus in Henderson. Young people preparing to enter grades six through eight are invited to participate in the week-long camp, which will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Sessions will be taught by faculty members from the VGCC Science Department and other college programs. Campers will learn not only …

VGCC volunteers contribute to success of UNC-TV fundraiser
Vance-Granville Community College recently sent a group of 35 volunteers to Research Triangle Park to continue the college’s tradition of helping UNC-TV with the public broadcasting network’s on-air “Festival 2013” fundraiser. This was the ninth consecutive year that the college participated in the Festival. Students, faculty and staff members traveled to the UNC-TV studio on March 2. The Vance County Appearance Commission and the Henderson Community Appearance Commission are asking the local community to get involved in the fifth annual Henderson-Vance Spring Litter Sweep during the week of April 15-20, 2013. Vance County Schools Revisions to Student Assignment Policy
The Vance County Board of Education Monday night approved revisions to its Assignment of Students to Schools Policy stating that the board will no longer approve out-of-county requests for students to attend schools outside of Vance County. Vance-Granville Community Band presents free Spring Concert
The Vance-Granville Community Band will perform its annual spring concert on Saturday, April 13. The program will begin at 6 p.m. in the Civic Center on VGCC’s Main Campus in Vance County. Vance-Granville Community College awarded 324 scholarships to students at an awards ceremony, held Feb. 20 in the college’s Civic Center.
