Vance-Granville Community College has selected 13 outstanding students to serve as ambassadors during the 2012-2013 school year. Ambassadors represent the college at special campus and community functions, among other duties. Members of the Vance-Granville Community College “Chi Beta Chi” chapter of the Phi Beta Lambda business student organization attended the state PBL Fall Leadership Development Conference in Raleigh, on November 2-3. VGCC Advisory Committees Meet
Citizens from Vance, Granville, Franklin and Warren counties came together at the Main Campus of Vance-Granville Community College on Oct. 30 as the college’s advisory committees held their annual meetings. VGCC’s 37 advisory committees are made up of people from the communities served by the college who have worked in the fields for which the college offers training. Middle School Football Game Moved To Wednesday Night
A decision has been made due to weather conditions to postpone the Tuesday night middle school football game between Eaton-Johnson and Henderson Middle Schools until Wednesday night. The game will be held at Southern Vance High School in Raider Stadium with a $4.00 admission

Vance-Granville Community Band performs concert at Louisburg High School
The Vance-Granville Community Band presented its fall concert on Nov. 1 in the Louisburg High School auditorium. It was the third consecutive year that the ensemble, a joint effort between students and interested citizens, has performed its first concert of the academic year in Louisburg. Veterans attend Job Fair at VGCC
The Civic Center on Vance-Granville Community College’s Main Campus in Vance County hosted the “Employ-A-Vet” Job Fair on Nov. 1. The sixth annual event, organized by the N.C. Division of Workforce Solutions JobLink Career Centers in Henderson and Oxford with the help of VGCC and other partners, was designed to help area residents, especially veterans of the U.S. armed services, find jobs and develop job readiness. VGCC schedules Health Unit Coordinator training course
Vance-Granville Community College is currently registering students for a Health Unit Coordinator course. The program is scheduled to be offered on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6 until 9 p.m., Dec. 5, 2012 through April 13, 2013. Classes will meet in Building 5 on the college’s Main Campus in Vance County, with Tonia Starling as the instructor. VGCC art classes provide mural for Granville Senior Center
Students in two Personal Enrichment Art classes at Vance-Granville Community College recently completed work on a mural that will decorate the Granville County Senior Center. Twelve students in a day class and nine others in a night class, both taught by longtime instructor Lelia Brigham, have each contributed to the four-by-six-foot quilt-like mural. “It’s one of the most original ‘quilts’ I’ve ever seen,” Brigham said. “Each artist chose his or her own subject, design and style, so it’s very colorful …

VGCC Art instructor wins ribbon at State Fair
A painting by Vance-Granville Community College art instructor Lelia Brigham of Henderson (seen here in an art classroom at VGCC) won the Hostesses’ Choice Award in the Arts and Photography competition at the recently-concluded 2012 North Carolina State Fair. Her miniature pastel, “Vance County Tobacco Barn,” was the only piece selected from among over 200 works by 120 artists to receive the new award, which was determined by a panel of 12 Arts and Photography Department hostesses. VGCC celebrates Medical Assisting profession
Students and faculty from the Medical Assisting program at Vance-Granville Community College recently celebrated Medical Assistants Recognition Week (Oct. 15–19). Each year, the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) designates the third full week in October to honor and recognize the multi-skilled professionals who function as members of the health care delivery team and perform administrative, clinical and laboratory procedures. Approximately 275 students from E.M. Rollins school marched Wednesday, October 24th in Henderson, NC downtown to the Police Station for “Red Ribbon Week”.
