VGCC officials meet with middle and high school counterparts

Students and faculty from the Medical Assisting program at Vance-Granville Community College recently celebrated Medical Assistants Recognition Week (Oct. 15–19). Each year, the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) designates the third full week in October to honor and recognize the multi-skilled professionals who function as members of the health care delivery team and perform administrative, clinical and laboratory procedures. The Vance County High Schools’ Alumni Reunion honoring former coaches and athletes will be held Friday, October 26, at Northern Vance High School in connection with the Northern Vance-Southern Vance football game to be played in Viking Stadium. “Extreme” money-saving tips offered at VGCC’s Couponing class
Savvy shoppers across the country are using increasingly sophisticated coupon techniques, with numerous web sites and television programs devoted to helping consumers save money. In that spirit, a workshop being offered at two Vance-Granville Community College campuses will provide local cost-conscious residents with various couponing strategies that could reduce a family’s grocery expenses by as much as 80 percent. VGCC starts Spring Semester Registration online and on-campus in November
The Spring 2013 semester at Vance-Granville Community College begins Tuesday, Jan. 8, but college officials advise students to apply and register for classes as early as possible. New students may apply for admission at any time prior to the beginning of the term. VGCC offers Administrative Assistant computer training
Vance-Granville Community College is currently registering students for an upcoming “Administrative Assistant Essentials” software training course, starting Nov. 19 on the college’s Main Campus in Vance County. VGCC names new Dean of Arts & Sciences
Maria B. Bailey of Henderson was recently named Dean of Arts and Sciences at Vance-Granville Community College. Bailey, who has worked at VGCC in a variety of capacities over almost two decades, will lead a division that includes the College Transfer program (offering the first two years of a four-year degree), as well as certificate, diploma and degree programs in Bioprocess Technology, Early Childhood Education and School-Age Education. VGCC receives positive feedback as SACS Committee visit ends
A committee representing the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) Commission on Colleges wrapped up its on-site visit to Vance-Granville Community College on Sept. 26, marking an end to a crucial step in the process by which the college receives reaffirmation of its accreditation. Vance County Schools – New Hope Backpack Buddies Programs
Two local churches are supporting students at New Hope Elementary School this school year through their Backpack Buddies programs, which involve church members each week donating non-perishable food items that are sent home for the weekend with selected students. Barbara Slaughter, school counselor at New Hope Elementary, works closely with the churches to coordinate the programs. VGCC schedules Digital Photography and Software courses at Main Campus
Area residents can register now for short-term courses in photography and two software programs, which will soon be offered by the Occupational Extension Computer Center at Vance-Granville Community College.
