VGCC offers Administrative Assistant training
Vance-Granville Community College is currently registering students for an upcoming “Administrative Assistant Essentials” software training course, starting Aug. 20 on the college’s Main Campus in Vance County. The popular course, which trains people for jobs in today’s computer-driven offices, will meet Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until noon, through Nov. 12, in room 7136 of Building 7. Pottern of Wake Forest is among just 28 students from across the state who have been selected to participate in the 2012-2013 North Carolina Community College Student Leadership Development Program (SLDP). VGCC instructor presents math workshops for Boys & Girls Clubs
Vance-Granville Community College recently provided special math workshops for elementary school children involved in the local Boys & Girls Clubs organization. Jacquelin Heath, head of the college’s School-Age Education program, presented a series called “Math Manipulatives for Youth” in June and July at the Boys & Girls Club site in Louisburg. The lessons were aimed at students, ages 5 to 8, in the organization’s summer programs who needed to improve their math skills. In educational terminology, a “mathematical manipulative” is …
Southern Vance High School Hosts Orientation Sessions
The Ninth-Grade Orientation for incoming freshman who will attend Southern Vance High School will be held on Tuesday, August 7. Two sessions will be offered for the convenience of students and their parents. Vance County Schools – Scholarship Funding for Graduates
Members of the Class of 2012 at Southern Vance and Northern Vance high schools earned a total of almost $2 million in scholarship funding to further their education at the college level. Of the 176 graduates of Southern Vance, 46 earned scholarships totaling $1,396,400. Among the 193 graduates from Northern Vance, there were 35 students earning a total of $386,660 in scholarship funding for college. Vance County Schools Administrative Changes for 2012-2013
The Vance County Board of Education during a special meeting Thursday night approved several administrative changes in Vance County Schools for the 2012-2013 school year. The changes include the appointments of two assistant superintendents for the local public school system and new principals at seven of the 16 local schools. VGCC Human Services graduate starts her own agency
Patrice Brown of Henderson, a graduate of Vance-Granville Community College’s Human Services Technology program, is celebrating milestones this summer. She recently opened her own mental health agency, and she is about to graduate with a master’s degree. Brown credits her education at VGCC with starting her down the path toward these successes. A single mother of two children, Brown said recently that she “has reached for the stars of success” since she graduated from Northern Vance High School in 2003. …

VGCC Warren Campus offering criminal justice certificate
Vance-Granville Community College will make the Corrections certificate program available at the college’s Warren County Campus for the first time this fall. Students who qualify will be able to start the program on Aug. 20 and complete all their required courses at the campus, which is located at 210 West Ridgeway Street in Warrenton.
