VGCC nominates student for statewide leadership award
Vance-Granville Community College recently nominated Goldie J. Davis of Henderson, a student in the college’s School-Age Education program, for the North Carolina Community College System’s Governor Robert W. Scott Student Leadership Award. The award was established in 2004 in honor of Scott, who served as Governor of North Carolina from 1969-1973, and later as President of the N.C. Community College System from 1983-1995. Nine graduates of the Vance-Granville Community College Day Care Center on the college’s Main Campus were honored in ceremonies on June 1 as they prepared to enter kindergarten this fall. Maria S. Orsini of Butner, an instructor for the Associate Degree Nursing program at Vance-Granville Community College, recently completed the Ed.D. (Doctorate in Education) program in Educational Leadership through the University of Phoenix. Father and son graduate with honors on same day from VGCC
Among the many graduates honored at Vance-Granville Community College’s commencement exercises in May were a father and son celebrating the achievement of their goals at the same time. Sharing this unique experience were Ronald Moskal and his son, Nicholas Whaley, both of Louisburg. The new head of Vance-Granville Community College’s Medical Assisting program recently wrapped up her first semester in the leadership role. Donna M. Gardner, a resident of Louisburg, joined VGCC in January, bringing with her more than 25 years of experience as a Medical Assistant and educator. Gardner graduated with an Associate in Applied Science degree in Medical Assisting from Kalamazoo Valley Community College in 1986. Vance County Schools will open school media centers two days each week during the summer to make summer reading and book check outs available to students.
