VGCC graduates 17 Law Enforcement Cadets in School’s 94th BLET Class
Seventeen cadets graduated on May 22, 2012 from the Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) course at Vance-Granville Community College in a ceremony held in the Civic Center on Main Campus. After passing the state certification exam, all are authorized to work in any law enforcement agency in North Carolina. NC Receives NCLB Waiver Approval
North Carolina is one of eight states receiving flexibility waivers from key provisions of No Child Left Behind in exchange for state-developed plans to prepare all students for college and career, focus aid on the neediest students, and support effective teaching and leadership. US Secretary of Education Arne Duncan announced the new round of waiver approvals on Tuesday. To date, 19 states have received waiver approval, and another 18 waiver plans are under review. VGCC Logistics Program Has New Leader
Steven J. Woodworth of Wake Forest recently finished his first semester as the head of the Global Logistics Technology program at Vance-Granville Community College. Woodworth is not new to VGCC, where he has taught Business and Office Administration courses on a full-time basis since 2007. He also taught part-time at the college from 2002 through 2004. North Carolina Schools Gots No Child Left Behind Waiver
North Carolina is one of eight states gaining flexibility from the Bush-era No Child Left Behind law, U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan said Tuesday. The Education Department has approved waivers for Connecticut, Delaware, Louisiana, Maryland, New York, North Carolina, Ohio and Rhode Island. Eighteen other states and Washington, D.C., also applied for a waiver and could receive approval in coming weeks. VGCC Golf Tournament raises Record-High Amount for Scholarships
Vance-Granville Community College’s 28th annual Endowment Fund Benefit Golf Tournament generated approximately $33,250 from entry fees and from sponsors to help fund scholarships for deserving students at the college. That result set a new record as the highest-grossing golf tournament in VGCC history. Vance-Granville Community College recently honored 14 students who completed the Certified Nursing Assistant I program on a daytime schedule at the college’s South Campus in Granville County. Artists are invited to submit their works for the 46th annual Kerr Lake Art Show, which will be open to the public June 11-15. VGCC Board Approves New Rates for Day Care
The Vance-Granville Community College Board of Trustees held its bimonthly meeting on Monday, May 21 at the college’s Henderson campus. During that meeting, the Board approved new rates for the college’s Day Care centers. VGCC offers child day care at the Main Campus and the Franklin County Campus. The new rate for one-year-old children will be $575 per month. For all other children (ages two through five years old), the rate will be $545 per month. The new rates will …

The Vance-Granville Community Band performed its fourth annual outdoor Mother’s Day concert on May 13 at the Gazebo on VGCC’s Main Campus. The band’s director, VGCC music instructor Michael Stephenson, said that when he first interviewed for his position, he saw the Gazebo and thought it was an ideal location from which a band could play. Graphics, Excel classes scheduled to start in June at VGCC Main Campus
Vance-Granville Community College is currently registering students for courses in graphics and spreadsheet software programs, designed for working professionals or anyone wanting to learn new skills. VGCC Pins Nursing Graduates
Vance-Granville Community College recognized 43 students who graduated this spring from the Associate Degree Nursing program with a pinning ceremony in the college’s Civic Center on May 9. Judge addresses VGCC Adult Basic Skills graduates
Vance-Granville Community College held commencement exercises honoring graduates of the college’s Adult Basic Skills programs on May 3 in the VGCC Civic Center. Those participating in the ceremony were among the approximately 460 students who have completed either the Adult High School Diploma program or the General Educational Development (GED) High School Equivalency program in the past year. Eighteen graduates of Vance-Granville Community College’s two-year Radiography program were honored in a May 7 pinning ceremony in the college’s Civic Center. Vance-Granville Community College’s seventh annual Earth Day festival was held on April 23 in the Civic Center on the college’s Main Campus.
