Union Bank establishes VGCC Scholarship honoring Stan Fox
Oxford-based Union Bank has established a new scholarship at Vance-Granville Community College in honor of a longtime community leader who has been instrumental in the success of both the bank and the college. Vance-Granville Community College has announced that 310 students earned Dean’s List honors for the spring semester that ended in May. VGCC Education Students complete afterschool training
Several Vance-Granville Community College students recently completed special training for afterschool program administrators and staff members. VGCC School-Age Education program head Jacquelin Heath incorporated the “Upping Your After School Game” course content into a curriculum course, School-Age Program Administration (EDU 263), this summer. Law enforcement officers in North and South Carolina are unraveling a complex scam that began with a phony online relationship and racy photographs, and ended with a demand for money to repair a damaged church window. In addition to a fake pastor, the scam also involved a crook masquerading as an agent of the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation. High School students explore health and science at VGCC
A group of 21 high school students from across the region attended the 2014 Mini-Medical School, organized by the Wake Area Health Education Center (AHEC) in partnership with Vance-Granville Community College. The camp was held in June at VGCC’s South Campus, located between Butner and Creedmoor. This was the college’s first time hosting a Mini-Medical School, which is an intensive, week-long day camp that uses computational science (computer simulation) and hands-on activities to study key aspects of medicine. Another Gang Member Arrest for Heroin
On Thursday, July 24, 2014, members of the Henderson Police Department Criminal Investigation Division arrested Kirk “Spit” Swain Jr. Swain, 24, 275 Lincoln Street, Henderson was taken into custody after a federal grand jury returned indictments alleging 4 counts of distribution of heroin. Swain was turned over to the custody of the United States Marshall Service pending trial in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina.
