Vance-Granville Community College will offer a course on “Afternoon Tea,” the tradition that is enjoying a renaissance as fine hotels, inns and tea rooms across the country give guests an opportunity to retreat from the hurried pace of their lives. Vance-Granville Community College recently completed classes that helped area adults gain needed computer skills through partnerships that extend the college’s reach into the community. “Employability Skills” classes were held at Western Vance High School in Henderson and at St. Delight Holy Church in Manson. NCDOT Crews Working to get Major Triangle Roads Ready for Winter Weather
Raleigh – NCDOT crews from Wake, Durham and surrounding counties will be out today preparing roads for possible winter weather expected late this afternoon and this evening. Maintenance workers in each county will be out brining interstate and freeway bridges and overpasses, putting down a saltwater mix to help keep ice from forming on them. North Carolina’s poorest hit by federal cuts: ‘Unless someone helps, we’re bust’
In February, in an attempt to address a $2bn debt that it owed the federal government, North Carolina passed a law that slashed both the number of weeks for which a job-seeker can receive state benefits and reduced the amount that it pays out in unemployment, from $535 a week to $350. The Student North Carolina Association of Educators (SNCAE) chapter at Vance-Granville Community College held a children’s book drive during the month of December. The club placed donation boxes at all four VGCC campuses. Megan Sullivan of Oxford, a member of the club majoring in School-Age Education as well as a VGCC student ambassador, spearheaded the drive. Raleigh, NC – N.C. Commerce Secretary Sharon Decker and Assistant Secretary for Rural Development Dr. Pat Mitchell announced today that the N.C. Rural Infrastructure Authority (RIA) approved 18 grants totaling $11,046,399. The RIA was established as part of the Rural Economic Development Division at the N.C. RALEIGH — The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is seeking input from residents in Rockingham, Stokes and Warren counties concerning planned treatment activities for the non-native, highly destructive gypsy moth. Field monitoring activities conducted by the department in 2013 determined that reproducing populations of the gypsy moth exist in Rockingham and Warren counties and represent a threat to hardwood trees.
