Corey Cheek Sr. Arrested on Charges Regarding Auto Mart Thefts
On June 18, 2013 officers with the Henderson Police Department arrested Corey Cheek Sr., 37, of 315 Davis Street, Henderson after a short foot chase. Officers had been attempting to locate Mr. Cheek for outstanding warrants and received a tip from a concerned citizen of his whereabouts. Mr. Cheek was identified as the suspect in the larceny of eleven batteries and cables from Auto Mart of Henderson, 133 Raleigh Road, which occurred around December 12, 2012. Value of the stolen …
First detection of the emerald ash borer made in the state; quarantine established for Granville, Person and Vance counties
RALEIGH — Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler signed an emergency quarantine order today restricting the movement of hardwood firewood, ash nursery stock and other ash materials from Granville, Person and Vance counties following the confirmation of the emerald ash borer in trees there. This marks the first time emerald ash borer has been found in the state. Oxford Preparatory High School Begins Construction
Work has begun at the new home of Oxford Preparatory High School on 6041 Landis Road in Oxford. Site work is underway, including grading, paving, and water and sewer connections. The modular campus is scheduled to be installed mid- July. Construction is happening quickly in preparation for teachers to begin work in the mid-August and the first day for students on August 26th. Library services have never been more accessible at Vance-Granville Community College than they are today, and students and instructors are taking advantage of a wide variety of resources. Usage of VGCC libraries, or Learning Resources Centers, is on the rise, according to Dave Trudeau, the college’s Director of Library Services. VGCC adding Paralegal degree program
Vance-Granville Community College will offer a two-year Paralegal Technology degree program, starting with the fall semester, which begins Aug. 19. The new program, which will be based at VGCC’s Franklin County Campus near Louisburg, will prepare area residents to work under the supervision of attorneys by performing routine legal tasks and assisting with substantive legal work. When Vance-Granville Community College’s fall semester begins Aug. 19, area residents will have new opportunities to train for a growing number of jobs in the world of designing video games and 3-D simulations.
