Vance-Granville Community College held a pinning ceremony for its 2012 Medical Assisting program graduates on Aug. 3 at the college’s Franklin County Campus in Louisburg, where the program is conducted. Changes at NC State Fair livestock buildings seek to minimize health risks from germs
RALEIGH — Visitors to livestock shows at the 2012 N.C. State Fair will see changes in pedestrian and animal traffic patterns that are designed to further minimize health risks. The measures were recommended by a multi-agency group set up by Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler after 25 visitors to the 2011 fair were sickened by E. coli O157:H7, a type of bacteria sometimes present in the feces of cows, sheep and goats. NC Schools Receive Grant to Cover AB/IB Test Fees
Thanks to a grant and supplemental funds from the U.S. Department of Education, every eligible North Carolina high school student taking an Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) exam this year will have his or her test fees covered. The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction recently announced the 2012-13 United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) policy for free and reduced-price meals for children enrolled in North Carolina’s public schools. On Saturday, August 4, 2012, at 12:39 A.M. officers with the Henderson Police Department responded to 338 Hamilton Street in response to fire/general alarm. When officers arrived they gained entry into the residence. Officers found Curtis Morton, 50, 338 Hamilton Street lying inside the residence. Morton was pronounced dead at the scene.
