Here is the agenda for tonight’s meeting of the Henderson City Council. The Council will meet at 7:00 p.m. in its chambers in City Hall. The Chair inquires as to whether any member knows of any conflict of interest or appearance of conflict with respect to matters before the Council.
Oxford mayor contradicted at KLRWS meeting
from Contributor Reports While Oxford Mayor Al Woodlief did not attend the meeting of the Kerr Lake Regional Water System partners on April 9 at 10:00 a.m. at City Hall, and his name was not mentioned, no time was lost in contradicting his published assessment that Henderson “is confronted with a roughly three-decade old water plant in need of extensive work…” as the the agenda of the Kerr Lake Regional Water Authority was amended to include the topic of upgrades …
County meeting notices
The Vance County Board of Commissioners’ Properties Committee is scheduled to meet Tuesday, April 15 at 12:00 in County Manager Jerry Ayscue’s conference room to discuss Social Services office space.

B & E suspect arrested on scene
On April 8, 2008 at approximately 11:00 p.m., officers of the Henderson Police Department responded to a residential alarm on Oak Street.

Chief K.L. Sidwell of the Henderson Police Department reported that members of his department’s Narcotics Unit made a traffic stop in the parking lot of Marketplace Shopping Center on April 7, 2008.

Marijuana arrest
Arrests – Latrone Eugene Magbie,of 336 Foster Road lot 1, was arrested for possession of schedule VI drug (marijuana). He was confined in the Vance County Jail under a $1000 secured bond.
Pedestrian injured in hit-and-run
On Friday, April 4, 2008, at approximately 2:36 a.m., officers of the Henderson Police Department responded to the 800 block of Water Street in reference to a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.
HPD arrests for larceny of spark plugs, deodorant
Arrests – Elizabeth Bullock, of 111 Grace Street, Oxford, was arrested for larceny of two shirts from Belk’s Department Store. The shirts were valued at $55. She was confined to the Vance County Jail under a $300 secured bond.

County public safety committee meets today
The Vance County Board of Commissioners’ Public Safety Committee is scheduled to meet Monday, April 7 at 2:00 p.m. to discuss ambulance franchise applications.

The Vance County Board of Commissioners’ HR Committee is scheduled to meet Monday, April 7 at 5:30 p.m.
8th grade writing scores released
North Carolina 8th graders’ writing scores were on par with the national average, and 87 percent of the students performed at the Basic level or better on the 2007 National Assessment of Educational Progress, according to results released last week by the U.S. Department of Education and presented at the April State Board of Education meeting this morning. Principal of the year named
A.L. Brown High School Principal Debra Morris was named the 2008 Wachovia North Carolina Principal of the Year during a luncheon ceremony held in Raleigh last week.
Hartness appointed to school board
