NCDOT to Improve 20.3 miles of Roads in Vance County
Raleigh- The N.C. Department of Transportation has awarded a $2.8 million contract to do resurfacing and shoulder work on 20.3 miles of roadway in Vance County. The contract was awarded to S.T. Wooten Corporation of Wilson. VGCC service project results in donation of clothes to Murdoch Center
Vance-Granville Community College recently organized a clothing drive to benefit the patients at Murdoch Developmental Center, located in Butner. The college’s Sustainability Outreach Subcommittee collected gently used clothes and shoes for both children and adults this spring, and received donations from faculty, staff and students. Geraldine Cash, the administrative assistant for VGCC’s South Campus and chair of the subcommittee, presented the donations to officials from Murdoch Developmental Center in May. “We collected approximately 20 boxes full of clothing,” Cash said. …

High school students from throughout the region are invited to learn about health sciences and careers in medicine by participating in the 2015 “Mini-Medical School” Summer Camp, conducted by the Wake Area Health Education Center (AHEC) in partnership with Vance-Granville Community College. On Tuesday, May 19, 2015, members of the Henderson Police Department Special Operations Unit arrested Sherron Pickett, 31, 822 Eaton Street, Henderson. Sixteen cadets graduated on May 12 from the Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) program at Vance-Granville Community College, in a ceremony held in the Civic Center on Main Campus. Vance-Granville Community College’s commencement exercises on May 15 awarded a record 574 degrees and diplomas, according to an announcement Monday night from VGCC President Dr. Stelfanie Williams. Dr. Williams made the report to the VGCC Board of Trustees at the board’s bi-monthly meeting at the main campus on May 18.
