Parents and Education Stakeholders Invited to Give Feedback on English Language Arts and Mathematics Standards
NC public school parents and community members are invited to go online and give their feedback on the standards for English language arts and mathematics instruction for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. The NC Department of Public Instruction has launched an online survey for parents and community members to provide feedback on the standards currently in place for students. NCDA&CS accepting proposals for Specialty Crop Block Grant Program
RALEIGH – The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is accepting proposals from nonprofits and government agencies for the Specialty Crop Block Grant Program. The program aims to enhance the competitiveness of specialty crops in the marketplace. Julie Hicks of Oxford, coordinator of institutional research at Vance-Granville Community College, recently completed a program of courses offered by the Data and Decisions Academy, which awarded her a Presidential Scholarship. Hicks was nominated for the scholarship by Dr. Stelfanie Williams, the president of VGCC. Annabelle Webb, a junior at Northern Vance High School, will serve as a senate page next week in the N.C. General Assembly in Raleigh. She was appointed as a page by Senate President Pro Tempore Phillip Berger. She was nominated by N.C. Sen. Angela Bryant, who represents Vance County. Webb will be serving during the week of February 16-20, assisting legislators in the N.C. Senate Chambers. She is the daughter of Larry and Elaine Webb of Henderson.

Ayscue retires after over 13 years serving VGCC students
Carolyn Ayscue of Henderson recently retired as a Financial Aid Assistant at Vance-Granville Community College. Ayscue’s colleagues held a retirement reception in her honor on Jan. 30 at the college’s Main Campus. Ayscue first joined the VGCC Financial Aid Office on Oct. 22, 2001, following many years with Harriet and Henderson Yarns.
