Sanitation dept. summer hours begin July 1
Beginning July 1, 2010, the City of Henderson Public Works Department’s Sanitation Division will change to its summer schedule.
Toddler dies of accidental gunshot injury
WRAL is reporting that a two year-old child has died of a self-inflicted accidental gunshot. The incident occurred at 491 Daniel Harris Road in Vance County.

Gateway CDC & Walmart kick off volunteerism July 3

$87,794.62 raised so far at Relay
Updated According to Vance County Relay for Life officials, $87,794.62 has been raised for cancer research as of the posting time of this article. This year’s goal is $150,000. Right now, the weather is comparatively cool. Concessions are open, and good food of all sorts is currently available. Relay festivites end at noon tomorrow.
School board to tour new Clarke Elementary
Members of the Vance County Board of Commissioners will tour the Clarke Elementary School on Monday, June 21, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. Immediately following the tour, the Education Committee of the Vance County Board of Education will meet at the school site. No agenda for the meeting was provided.
North Henderson Baptist raffle tickets
The North Henderson Baptist Church will be holding a Relay for Life Raffle during the Relay for Life event this weekend. Prizes are a dual gas and charcoal grill, $100 in cash, and a $100 gift certificate. Tickets are $2 each or three for $5.

City council approves sanitation privatization
The Henderson City Council approved privatization of solid waste removal by a vote of 6-2 earlier this evening. The contract was awarded to Waste Industries, Inc., the sole bidder for the concession. The two dissenting votes were cast by council members Sara Coffey and Mary Emma Evans. No further information was available at time of publication.
