Jointly funded programs talks to continue June 22
The City/County Joint Intergovernmental Committee is scheduled to meet on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at City Hall. Henderson City Hall is located at 134 Rose Avenue in Henderson, North Carolina. The group will proceed with on-going discussions on jointly funded programs.

County public safety committee meets June 4
The Vance County Board of Commissioners’ Public Safety Committee is scheduled to meet Friday, June 4 at 3:00 p.m. to discuss EMS matters. The meeting will be held in the County Manager Jerry Ayscue’s office in the County Administration Building, 122 Young Street in Henderson, North Carolina.

Thursday’s open line
I heard on the radio yesterday that BP was in the process of shutting down the oil well in the Gulf of Mexico that is currently leaking oil at a rate measured in thousands of gallons per day. This is probably an obvious question, but why were they shutting down a well that clearly has the capacity to produce a lot of oil? May smarter minds than mine puzzle this out on today’s open line.
Memorial Day solid waste collection schedule for city
The collection of garbage, recyclables, curbside trash, and curbside yard debris normally scheduled for Monday, May 31, 2010 will be collected on Monday. Collection will begin at 6:00 a.m. Please make sure that all garbage, recyclables, and curbside waste is set out and ready for the early pick-up. The Henderson Public Works Department’s administrative office will be closed on Monday, May 31, 2010. Questions should be directed to the Public Works Department at 252.431.6115 or 252.431.6118.
