Board of ed. Finance Committee to meet
The Vance County Board of Education’s Finance Committee will meet today at 1:00 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Administrative Services Center’s Superintendent’s Conference Room at 1724 Graham Avenue in Henderson. No agenda was provided for the meeting.
County committees to meet
The Vance County Board of Commissioners’ Public Safety Committee is scheduled to meet this Friday, February 27, 2009 at 12:00 p.m. to discuss fire and emergency medical services. The meeting will be in the County Manager Jerry Ayscue’s office. Also, the Human Resources Committee is scheduled to meet Monday, March 2, 2009 at 5:30 p.m. in Ayscue’s conference room. No agenda was given for the human resources meeting.

Atkinson to attend White House briefing
North Carolina State Superintendent of Public Instruction June Atkinson will join her fellow chief state school officers today, Wednesday, February 25, at 1:30 p.m., for a White House briefing on the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 and its impact on public schools. It looks like I won’t be a participant in the free Weatherization Assistance Program after all (We make too much. Big surprise). However, we’re told that there are several opportunities for the middle class, including tax credits (30%) on retrofits and sales tax reductions on vehicle purchases. You can get more information about the fledgling program here.
