Budget meetings galore
The Henderson City Council’s Finance and Intergovernmental Relations (FAIR) Committee will meet to discuss the budget again today at 5:00 p.m. if City Attorney Billy Strickland determines that such a continuation of yesterday’s meeting is legal. That meeting will take place at City Hall. The Vance County Board of Commissioners will also meet today at 5:00 p.m. to discuss their budget in the County Administration Building on Young Street.
Law enforcement Torch Run Wednesday
The NC Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run will be held Wednesday June 4, 2008, at 9:00 a.m. starting at the Henderson Police Department located at 200 Breckenridge St. in downtown Henderson.

County committees to meet Monday
The Vance County Board of Commissioners’ Public Safety Committee is scheduled to meet on Monday, June 2 at 3:00 p.m. and the Human Resources Committee is scheduled to meet at 5:30 p.m. – both in the County Manager’s Office conference room.

The Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press is reporting that the North Carolina Senate is considering a bill that would award attorney’s fees automatically to plaintiffs winning open records lawsuits. Apparently, North Carolina is one of the few states that does not have automatic sanctions.
