Election Day open line
Well, the big day is here. Will Henderson vote for a “New Direction”, or will it stay the course (and Council members) already in place? Whatever Hendersonians decide, it’s going to be a big day. Good luck to all. Let the sniping commence.

Five County Focus: School poster contest
In connection with National Alcohol & Drug Addiction Recovery Month (September) and Drug Awareness and Prevention Month (October), Five County Mental Health Authority, the school districts and local business partners are sponsoring a poster contest for children grades six through eight.

** Corrected ** Well, the word is that Ward 2 At Large candidate Mike Inscoe will not be accepting Henderson City Council member Lynn Harper’s challenge to a debate tonight at 8:00 p.m. at the City Operations Center. As we understand it, however, Ms. Harper plans to be there at the appointed time and we will be there to pose questions to any candidate that cares to answer them.

We saw in Henderson Council member Lynn Harper’s ad in the The Daily Dispatch this morning that she has challenged her opponent for the Ward 2 At Large seat, Mike Inscoe, to a public debate on Thursday at 8:00 p.m. at the City’s Operations Center. NC 4th & 8th graders on par with nation
The 2007 National Assessment of Educational Progress, also known as the Nation’s Report Card, showed North Carolina fourth and eighth graders’ performance on par with or better than the nation’s performance in reading and mathematics, according to information released this morning by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES).
