Four and a half days remain to register to run for the Henderson City Council, and several candidates are still unopposed. It looks like the last day is going to be fun, so I guess I’ll be hanging out in the Board of Election office that morning. How will the race shape up? Speculate here on our open line.

Saturday is Bastille Day, a French holiday which commemorates the storming of the Bastille prison and the beginning of the French Revolution. While it’s always great fun to hate the French, don’t forget to hate their 35 hour work week, their universal health care system, their five weeks of guaranteed vacation per year, and unlimited sick days.

BGCA summer program temporarily moved to Yancey
Due to electrical problems, the Summer Program of the Boys & Girls Clubs of North Central North Carolina, Vance County Unit that is currently being held at E.M. Rollins Elementary School will be temporarily relocated to L.B. Yancey Elementary School. Those parents whose children are participating in the program should be prepared to drop off and pick up children from that location, effective immediately. NC First Lady visits Henderson
It was reported to Home in Henderson early this morning that First Lady Mary Easley was scheduled to visit the Aycock Recreation Center at 10:00 a.m. today and the H. Leslie Perry Memorial Library at 11:00 a.m. No further details are available at this time. However, we are certain that The Daily Dispatch was notified of the visit in a timely fashion and will provide complete and accurate coverage in tomorrow’s edition.

Journal Committee to meet Tuesday
The next Henderson City Council Journal Committee will meet on Tuesday, July 3, at 8:30 a.m. in the City Hall Conference Room. The Journal Committee normally meets on the Thursday immediately prior to the meeting of the Henderson City Council.
