Here’s an interesting article on how different states’ reading assessments don’t seem to mesh up when compared by national standards (tests that are developed by giving field test questions to students of different genders and ethnic backgrounds in all major regions of the nation). Well, the kids are finally at home for the summer, and this editor is feeling dog tired. Summer school begins for students on June 18, where students will get two more cracks at the End-of-Grade test(s) that will play a major part in determining their placement for the next 180 days of school. Five County Focus: Men’s health everyone’s concern
Men’s Health Week will be observed between June 9 — June 21; some activities will occur throughout that period — and hopefully, will be ongoing because the goal is not to improve men’s health for one week but for the long-term.

School board to meet in special session
The Vance County school board will meet in special session at 5:15 p.m. at the Administrative Services Center on Graham Avenue today. It will conduct an executive session on personnel matters and make personnel recommendations for 2007-2008. Editor’s Note: It is the Editor’s tenure year. He will not be attending.
