Weekend open line
We have read the comment posts under Friday’s open line regarding Henderson Council member Mary Emma Evan’s housing status. While the debate itself does not violate any of the editorial standards of Home in Henderson (yes, we have standards, smart-alecs), please remember that without input from Ms. Evans herself, the discussion is simply speculation. Just remember to keep yer spurs from a-jinglin’ and a-janglin’ on this weekend’s open line.

Here’s a fun site that the kids might enjoy: Earth from Space. I hear it looks really clean from up there. While you’re looking, don’t forget about HiH Classifieds. If you’re interested in running an ad, click here for the information on how. Either way, this virtual space is free for comments. Fire away.
Wednesday’s open line
Well, the gig is up. No more links to The Daily Dispatch, since readers must now register to read articles on-line and will soon go to a pay format. It was fun while it lasted. HiH, however, plans to remain a free service, although Mrs. Editor pointed out that if I charged $10 per year in subscription fees per user I could quit teaching. It does make one think… Enjoy in good health.

We were disappointed that only one (1) Hendersonian chose to speak at the City Council’s first Preliminary Budget Public Hearing. On the other hand, perhaps they realized that all of our money is about to go right down the tubes. Literally. The microphone is yours. Try to stay on-key. P.S. — Don’t forget to check out HiH Classifieds!
Monday’s open line
We applaud Henderson City Council member and FAIR Chair Lynn Harper for affording Henderson residents the opportunity to opine on the budget in its embryonic stage rather than on the eve of its commencement. We trust that Hendersonians will rise to the occasion. Where should our fair city spend? Where should it cut? We suspect the decision-makers are reading, so say it loud and proud on today’s open line.

Sorry we’ve been away, but the surgery and the responsibilities of family and work overwhelmed us for a bit. If there’s anyone out there who wants to play reporter, we always welcome the input! Mrs. Editor is fast approaching recovery, thank goodness, and life is approaching a state of normalcy once again. We thank those of you who inquired by telephone and email and invite you to do so if we should suddenly disappear in the future! The floor is, …

Mrs. Editor asked me to express her thanks to all of those who wished her well during her hospital sojourn. She is at home and resting comfortably and on her way to a complete recovery. Please remember that Home in Henderson does not condone political endorsements that are not paid for through our Advertising Department. While readers are encouraged to debate the merits of candidates for political office, the constant repetition of messages such as “Vote for X” or “Vote …

Just as in real life, there were some unexpected complications with Mrs. Editor’s surgery, so she had to spend the night in the hospital. Everything seems to be okay, for now, but time and lab work will tell in the morning. Please keep her in your thoughts. For the rest of Henderson, I suppose that life goes on, so here’s the open line with which to rant and rave about it. Enjoy. (P.S. — Don’t forget to check out
Monday’s open line
This morning brings us once again to the Maria Parham Medical Center where, if all goes as planned, Mrs. Editor will leave sometime this afternoon minus a minor organ that has been troubling her now (as well as the rest of us) for some time. In the mean time, we commend The Daily Dispatch on yesterday’s op/ed piece regarding public records. If you haven’t read it, it’s definitely worth a look. Officials running background checks on citizens requesting public information? …

The open line is yours to do with as you will. Have mercy.

We’re back from the North Carolina Reading Association‘s 2007 conference in Greensboro, and we learned a lot about teaching reading to people who, frankly, don’t care all that much about reading. We got some good ideas and a fresh infusion of hope for the future. What gives you hope? Let us know on today’s open line.
