I spent my precious after-school time doing a back-and-forth with our web host in an attempt to keep the video feeds working. We established two things: 1) They like to give orders to their customers. 2) I don’t respond well to being given orders by people I pay to provide a service. City Boards & Commissions Committee meets Dec. 8
The Henderson City Council’s Boards & Commissions Committee will meet on Wednesday, December 8, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. in the City Hall Conference Room. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss appointments/re-appointments to the Human Relations Committee, Economic Development Committee, Clean Up Henderson Committee and the H. Leslie Perry Library Board. The meeting is open to the public.

Don’t forget that the swearing-in ceremony for our two new Vance County Commissioners Tommy Hester and Gordon Wilder will be held at 5:45 p.m. in the County Administration Building, 122 Young Street in Henderson, North Carolina. New laws as of Dec. 1
The following new pieces of legislation went into effect as of the first of this month: License tag frames that obscure any information will be assessed a $100 fine; The Move Over law has been expanded to utility crews working at the side of the road to restore electric service after an accident or inclement weather. The fine for violating the law is $250. It also requires motorists to slow down and/or move to an inside lane for law enforcement …
County General Gov’t Committee meets Dec. 6
The Vance County Board of Commissioners’ General Government Committee is scheduled to meet Monday, December 6, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in the office of County Manager Jerry Ayscue. Ayscue’s office is located in the County Administration Building, 122 Young Street in Henderson, North Carolina. No agenda for the meeting was provided.

County water district board to convene Monday
The Vance County Board of Commissioners will convene as the Water District Board during part of its regular monthly meeting on Monday, December 6, 2010. The regular meeting begins at 6:00 p.m. in the County Administration Building, 122 Young Street in Henderson, North Carolina. The Water District Board will convene during the County Manager’s Report portion of the meeting.
County HR Committee meets Dec. 6
The Vance County Board of Commissioners’ Human Resources Committee will meet on Monday, December 6, 2010. Neither an agenda nor a location for the meeting was provided. However, it was noted that the earlier meeting time will allow commissioners to get to the commissioners’ meeting room by 5:45 p.m. for the swearing-in ceremony.

Men’s shelter fund raiser Dec. 7
On December 7, 2010 from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. the Men’s Homeless Shelter will be having a Spirit Night fundraiser at Chick-fil-A on Dabney Drive in Henderson.

A nightmare before Christmas?
This picture was taken at the very crowded Henderson Walmart shortly after 12:01 a.m. today. Black Friday started as soon as possible this year as retailers hope to pull out of the current economic slump. At Walmart, customers were queuing up before 1:00 a.m. to wait for deeply discounted laptop computers and flat-screen televisions, among other items, to go on sale at 5:00 a.m.
