N.C. Rural Infrastructure Authority Board Approves Second Round of Grants

RALEIGH, N.C. – N.C. Commerce Secretary Sharon Decker and Assistant Secretary for Rural Development Dr. Pat Mitchell announced today that the N.C. Rural Infrastructure Authority (RIA) approved 18 grants totaling more than $8.1 million. The RIA was established as part of the Rural Economic Development Division at the N.C. One of the most frightening industrial accidents in the U.S. occurred on this date in 1979 at the Three Mile Island Nuclear Power Plant on the Susquehanna River, south of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. A cascade of alarms and emergency responses started when someone mistakenly cross connected air and water lines in the plant’s number two reactor. On Thursday, March 27, 2014, members of the Henderson Police Department and North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation arrested a second individual in regards to this matter. Marvin Hargrove Jr., 25, 123 S. Cooper Drive, Henderson was charged with one count of first degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and one count of second degree kidnapping. N.C. Commerce Sec. Sharon Decker has announced the 2014 Cycle North Carolina “Mountains to Coast” route with the help of town representatives at the Division of Tourism offices in Raleigh. The Child Care Center at Vance-Granville Community College’s Main Campus held an Art Show on March 21. Approximately 150 works of art created by 37 artists (who ranged in age from one to five years old) were displayed. Trustees Approve Total Request of $2.4 Million from Four Counties

Vance-Granville Community College’s Board of Trustees has approved a proposed total budget request of $2,491,302 for 2014-2015 for Vance, Granville, Franklin and Warren counties. On Monday, March 24, 2014, members of the Henderson Police Department responded to the BP station located at 615 Raleigh Road in Henderson. When officers arrived, they found the store clerk Ahmed Shahit, 55, 1259 Nicholas Street, Henderson suffering from a gunshot wound. Shahit was pronounced deceased while on scene. Raleigh – The N.C. Department of Transportation is expanding the cleanup of vegetation debris from the March 6-7 ice storm to six additional counties.
