Vance County Animal Shelter Featured in Art Gallery for Fundraiser February 14th, 2014

N.C. Museum of Art receives work by Mary Cassatt

The North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh has acquired its first work by impressionist painter Mary Cassatt, courtesy of a Winston-Salem woman and some anonymous donors. “Portrait of Madame X Dressed for the Matinee” will go on view in the museum’s impressionist gallery later this month and be part of its permanent collection, museum officials said Tuesday. “We are very excited and fortunate to acquire this beautiful portrait by Mary Cassatt – the Museum’s first major work by an …

Concord Mills’ Sea Life aquarium set to open Feb. 20

Sea Life, the aquarium that will give people a chance to walk “under” an ocean of marine animals, will open to the public Feb. 20, officials announced last week. Construction on the 36,000-square-foot aquarium is nearing completion at Concord Mills. When open, the attraction will feature 5,000 creatures, including sharks, stingrays, an octopus, seahorses, jellyfish, and other animals.

A new study is putting the state’s craft beer scene into perspective. The Brewers Association, the leading industry trade group, estimates craft beer’s economic impact in North Carolina topped $791 million in 2012, putting the state at No. 14 nationally. Raleigh – NCDOT crews from Wake, Durham and surrounding counties will be out today preparing roads for possible winter weather expected late this afternoon and this evening.
