Heartless crooks set up fake charities (some with names that sound like established, legitimate organizations) to collect donations for disaster relief that go straight into the scammer’s pocket. One of the great match races in horse racing history took place on this date in 1938 at Baltimore’s Pimlico track between War Admiral and Seabiscuit. The heavily favored War Admiral was larger, as well as the reigning triple crown winner and horse of the year. Seabiscuit’s regular jockey was injured and could not ride that day. Seabiscuit jumped to an early lead, but War Admiral caught up and the two horses raced side by side for almost a mile. …

You know the letter that any Vance County High School graduate should have no trouble digesting without any additional need for further questioning. William Bender: When Push Comes To Shove

Submitted Article October 31, 2012 Opinion

Nothing else is as relevant as the famous saying, “When push comes to shove… the real Mitt Romney shows up.  This is the quintessential point of distinction between not just Romney and Obama, but between conservative Republicans and Democrats.  Conservative Republicans really do not care about the 47% of the country they do not identify with; people who actually work for a living, do a job, have a life, and have no interest of becoming Donald Trump.  The 2012 election …

For years, Halloween was eagerly awaited by youngsters, who would dress up in whatever was handy and make the rounds of the neighborhood, begging for candy with the empty threat “trick or treat!” Now, more formal parties are being held, and grownups …
