VGCC Students Hold Musical Fundraiser

Moped Driver Killed In Accident

On Friday February 3, 2012, at 1:12 P.M., members of the Henderson Police Department Patrol Division responded to the intersection of East Andrews Avenue and Clark Street in Henderson.   Officers arrived on scene and found the victim lying in the roadway.  The investigation revealed that the victim had been operating a moped at the time of the collision.  The moped had been struck by a pickup truck pulling a trailer. Vance County School Dropout Rates Improve, But Is Still 5th Highest in State

Local Education Agencies (LEAs) with the largest high school dropout rates were Swain County, Lexington City, Thomasville City, Edenton/Chowan, Vance County, Person County, Kannapolis City, Scotland County, Bladen County and Granville County.  Vance County saw 5.55% of students drop out for the 2010-2011 year.  The number is better than the previous years, however with 2008-2009 at 6.87% and 2009-2010 at 6.38%. November 2011 rate for Vance County was 13.1%.  Unemployment rates increased in 93 of North Carolina’s 100 counties in December. Rates decreased in four counties and remained the same in three. “Our focus is helping existing and new employers grow jobs in North Carolina,” said N.C. Caterpillar Again Chooses North Carolina for Expansion

Bev Perdue announced today that Caterpillar Inc., the largest maker of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, and industrial gas turbines in the world, will expand its manufacturing facilities in Johnston County.
