Clean Up Henderson discusses penalties, problems
Editor’s Note: Because the Mayor’s emergency meeting was concurrent with the meeting of the Clean Up Henderson Committee, only half of the meeting was covered. The Clean Up Henderson committee discussed the general problem of attempting to collect civil penalties on junked, abandoned, and nuisance vehicles.

New Public Works director to be named
Henderson City Council members Lynn Harper and Ranger Wilkerson announced at Wednesday’s Clean Up Henderson Committee meeting that Linda Leyen will soon be named the director of the city’s Public Works Department.

Fire insurance rating drop possible for “Golden Belt”
According to a letter from the North Carolina Department of Insurance, Office of State Fire Marshall, the Golden Belt Fire Insurance District is in danger of being downgraded from a Class 9S rating to a Class 10.

Yesterday, Henderson Police Sergeant S. Walker of the Highway Traffic Safety Unit (HTSU) stopped a vehicle traveling north on I-85 at the 211 mile marker for a speeding violation.
Warren to be named acting manager
In an emergency meeting called by Henderson Mayor Clem Seifert, it was announced in an atmosphere of mutual agreement that Assistant City Manager Mark Warren would be named Acting City Manager for the duration of City Manager Jerry Moss’s illness.

The City of Henderson announced this afternoon that Captain Tony Clark of the Henderson Police Department has once again been appointed Acting Chief of Police.

Hoyle petition upheld
In a telephone interview, Faye Gill, Director of Elections, informed Home in Henderson that the Vance County Board of Elections did not find sufficient cause to remove George Hoyle from the ballot for Sheriff of Vance County in the November election. The certification of the petition is therefore upheld.
