$7,000 reward in murder case

Information leading to the arrest and conviction of the killer or killers of a Maple Street man is now worth up to $7,000.

Police Chief Glen Allen announced in a news release Wednesday that in addition to the standard $1,000 reward from Crimestoppers, the Police Department is offering $1,000, and Gov. Mike Easley has authorized up to $5,000 more to help solve the murder of 22-year-old Lajuan Wilkins, who was shot dead at his home at 1603 Maple St. on the night of March 8.

Thus, the total available reward is $7,000.

Joe Neil Macon also was inside the Maple Street house March 8, and he was wounded. He told investigators that two black men entered the house and demanded money or drugs, then shot Wilkins and himself.

The Henderson Police Department and the State Bureau of Investigation need assistance from the public in solving this case, Allen reported. Anyone with information concerning the crime or Wilkins’ whereabouts before the shooting is asked to call the Henderson police at 438-4141, the SBI at 919-571-4850 or Crimestoppers at 492-1925.
