National Day of Prayer comes to courthouse

Vance County residents can participate in the National Day of Prayer next Thursday by gathering on the plaza of the county courthouse at noon to pray for the community.

“We are joining our fellow citizens throughout the country who are meeting to pray for God’s grace to be poured out upon our communities and our nation,” wrote the Rev. Doug Addington, the pastor of West Hills Presbyterian Church.

The local event grew out of a twice-a-month prayer meeting that was first held this week. The prayer meeting is a spinoff from the Vance County Coalition Against Violence’s Faith Summit last Saturday.

The theme for the 54th annual National Day of Prayer, “God Shed His Grace on Thee,” is based on Hebrews 4:16: “Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”

The next regular session of the new nondenominational anti-violence prayer meeting will be Tuesday, May 10, at 7 p.m. at West Hills Presbyterian.
