Mom charged with kidnapping

A 20-year-old woman didn’t get far in an attempt to seize custody of her child Wednesday evening, the Henderson Police Department announced in a news release.

Tiffany Fields of 810 Vaughan St. is in the Vance County Jail in lieu of $25,000 secured bond on a charge of felonious abduction of a child.

Fields was arrested minutes after police received a report of a kidnapping at 403 Spring Count. Officer C.M. Wilkerson responded to the scene about 6:15 p.m. and was told that Fields had snatched the child from the legal guardian, a foster parent.

After the broadcast of suspect and vehicle descriptions, Officer D.G. Currin spotted Fields’ car on North Garnett Street. She was stopped, and the child was found unharmed.

Fields’ initial court date is June 27.
