Nominations sought for FSA Committee

The Vance office of the federal Farm Service Agency is taking nominations for a seat on the FSA Committee until Aug. 1.

The seat for Administrative Area 1 is up for election this year. Randy Moody now represents that area, covering Townsville, Williamsboro and Dabney townships.

Denise Hight, the county executive director for the FSA, encourages farmers to nominate their neighbors as candidates for the committee.

“It is crucial that every eligible producer take part in this election because the county FSA Committee is a direct link between the farm community and the U.S. Department of Agriculture,” she said. “The election of responsible agriculture producers is important to all farmers.”

The FSA Committee administers farm programs such as commodity price support loans and payments, farmer loans, conservation programs, incentive indemnity and disaster payments for some commodities, and other farm disaster assistance.

Farm owners, operators, tenants and sharecroppers of legal age may vote if they are eligible to take part in any FSA program. All eligible voters also are eligible to run for the seat.

The FSA urges all eligible people to participate fully in selecting the county committee. Nomination forms are available at the FSA office on Young Street or online. For more information call the Vance County FSA office at 438-3134, ext. 2.
