No buyer yet for Henderson Winn-Dixie

Henderson’s Winn-Dixie store on Dabney Drive is not among 79 stores for which the company has found buyers, and the store could be out of business by mid-September.

Winn-Dixie announced Friday that 20 buyers have been found to keep running the 79 stores as grocery or liquor stores. Two Wake County locations were on the list; Henderson was not.

The 79 stores are among 326 Winn-Dixie is selling or closing as it shrinks its area of operations in an attempt to emerge from bankruptcy as a profitable company. The store at the Dabney West Shopping Center is among the 326, and Winn-Dixie intends to leave the location in the coming months.

Winn-Dixie has scheduled an auction July 18 and 19 to confirm or improve the preliminary deals for the 79 stores and continues to seek buyers for the other 247 targeted locations.

Parties interested in purchasing these stores should contact Ramesh Chakrapani with The Blackstone Group at 212-583-5066, Matthew Morris with The Food Partners at 202-579-0434 or Emilio Amendola with DJM Asset Management at 631-752-1100.

The company said it will seek approval July 27 to 29 from the Bankruptcy Court to hold store-closing sales at any locations for which it can’t find buyers. Those closing sales would begin around Aug. 1 and be finished by mid-September, Winn-Dixie said.

“We are working hard to find buyers for additional stores who will continue to operate them as well as offer employment opportunities for our associates,” Winn-Dixie President Peter Lynch said in a statement Friday. “We sincerely regret the impact that our plans will have on many of our associates who will not be offered opportunities with new owners. We recognize this is a difficult time, and we will provide severance and other assistance to these individuals through their transition.”
